Bloodcat Love create music that demands your heels click and your fingers snap, snap, snap. It’s vicious in the front seat, curling your lips back as the headlights burn a cat’s claw to the curve and a salty tambourine to the bones.

They’ve taken their sonic wall of sound to such venues as the Viper room, Spaceland and King King where they soon stirred up a lot of attention with their melodic British Rock influenced sound. Their music has created a loyal following, which grows with every show. ONCE is about music, emotion, life. Ok Stranger
OK STRANGER began as many bands do; friends getting together and killing time by making as much noise on their instruments as their apartment manager will allow. Wes Hudson(OK) and Trickie Kitting(FL) met in a Orlando recording school in the fall of 2002. Reconvening in Los Angeles after graduation the pair found the right musicians to complete their band.

In putting together our upcoming monthly events, I can’t help but think of how my job is sort of like a mullet.  You know… business in the front, party in the back.  Except, we are more business in the day, party at night.  What more could you really ask for in a job, I mean, really?  There is no greater feeling than having a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day that you actually made something happen.  We have all been working extremely hard to put together an amazing launch for our new monthly events at Safari Sam’s in Los Angeles showcasing independent AF talent.  If you’re in town, come on down to Sam’s on September 10th, located at 5214 Sunset Blvd in Hollywood.  The shows are FREE for ArtistForce members or with RSVP HERE and $5 for everyone else.  We have an amazing lineup featuring 4 great local bands, The Hot Tramps, Sabrosa Purr, Life With An Astronaut and Versa Vice along with DJ Josh (ua) from Bloodcat Love, and photos by Shadowscene.

THE HOT TRAMPS sound has been categorized as subversive Motown, as well as New Wave Proto-Glunk (glamorous punk rock).   Their live shows have explosive bursts of dancing, highlighted by the emotional and physical connections between the band and audience. Prizes such as boomerangs and handcuffs are given away to the best dancers of the night.  They have played established venues in California and New York, as well as helicopter pads and rollerderby rinks. SABROSA PURR is an indie rock band from Los Angeles, California, comprised of members Will Love, Jacob Thompson and Jeff Mendel. They released their self-produced début EP, “Music from the Violet Room” on Dangerbird Records to critical raves in October of 2005, finding themselves in the Top Ten Albums of 2005 for many tastemakers’ lists, including that of Bagel Radio, CMJ’s Speciality Music Director of the Year 2005. Their full-length album “To the Crickets and the Ghosts” is scheduled for release in the fall of 2007. Having performed successful residencies in two of LA’s most important venues, “Silverlake Lounge” and “Spaceland” upon the release of their E.P. “Music from the Violet Room” and playing at New York’s Fashion Week and CMJ New Music Marathon, 2006 established Sabrosa Purr as one of LA’s most promising young acts. 

LIFE WITH AN ASTRONAUT was founded by 10 year old Dakota Floeter. Now, at just 13 years of age, Dakota has already been playing guitar for eight years. Dakota likes to cover his favorite songs and record it all on his computer’s garage band program. The cover songs have gotten a lot of attention from as far away as the UK. The NME called Dakota “the world’s most talented 11 year old”. He has appeared on stage as a guest with other artists at The House of Blues in Los Angeles, on Austin City Limits, and at Texas Stadium. Dakota can be seen playing Smoke On The Water in a commercial for Hewlett Packard and Fender Guitars.  

If VERSA VICE were a boot it would be hand crafted by three to reach the height of even ones knee. Each lace ensures a firm fit, enticing you to stand rather than sit. But a boot Versa Vice cannot be, their duty calls as a rock band for you and me. With songs described as melodically dense, years of writing on an acoustic were very well spent. Now on stage their harmonies soar, going beyond where many bands fear to explore. An arsenal of tunes wound tight ’round their waist, they play to crowds who cheer and embrace. After tossing a few ideas around for this blog it comes down to one thing, Nirvana. As does pretty much every conversation I engage in tends to lead to. I sort of feel like Sean Penn in “I am Sam”. He relates everything in his life to a Beatles song. Not that I’m Sam, but I’ve found that a lot of things in my life tend to relate to my love of Nirvana. Not to stray too far from the topic but I even named my dog KC. Nothing since Beatlemania had happened until Nirvana came along and I sure felt it.

Nirvana was formed by Kurt Cobain and friend Krist Noveselic of Aberdeen, Washington. They both felt alienated as children and therefore found comfort in punk rock. When they started gigging around town they immediately gained notoriety and credibility among peers and executives alike. After being discovered, Nirvana became an instant success much to everyone’s surprise. Nothing like this had ever had been seen or heard in the mainstream pop world. People related to his angst and sincerity and genuinely felt what he had to say and accepted it.

Nirvana’s success changed the course of rock music in the early ‘90s initiating the rise of alternative music and legitimizing the differences in perspective between the Baby Boomers and Gen Xers, Cobain made being “punk rock” cool. He brought a whole new meaning to pop music with his band’s impact even being felt by his own musical heroes.

When I think about the way that Nirvana changed the music industry, how many lives their music affected, and the phenomenon they caused, I think about how I can parallel this to ArtistForce. AF is something new and exciting that is going to change the industry like Nirvana did. Nirvana made it acceptable to be different and welcomed change, as does ArtistForce. We give talent a chance to be seen, heard and discovered. Nothing like this has ever been done and we are ready to hit the industry with ARTISTFORCEMANIA!
